Effect of preoperatıve ınhıbıtıon of prostaglandın synthesıs on postoperatıve paın and analgesıc need ın ınguınal hernıa operatıons

ABSTRACT: In our study preoperative inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis by Tenoxicam in inguinal hernia operations was evaluated and compared with placebo in preventing postoperative pain. Both Tenoxicam and placebo groups consisted of 20 patients each. Injection of Tenoxicam was given to the Tenoxicam group 2 hours before the operation. During the first 24 hours postoperative pain scores and analgesic drug need was evaluated by visual analog scala (VAS). Statistical analysis revealed significant differences in mean VAS scores (p<0.01), Vas scores in hours, postoperative Metamizol injection need (p<0.001) of the two groups. Postoperative hospital stay, and incidence of side effects were not different significantly.
