Purpose: To compare the foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area, FAZ morphology and vessel density of macular capillary plexuses in patients with retinal venous occlusion (RVO) using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) with their heathy eyes. Materials and Methods: The consecutive patients with RVO who were followed at our retina clinic between December 2017 - April 2018 were retrospectively evaluated. The subjects were screened using FAZ, Non-Flow and Density assesment tool of OCTA. Patients with poor image quality and segmentation errors were excluded. FAZ area, FAZ perimeter, acircularity index of FAZ (AI), foveal density (FD) and vessel density values of both superficial (SCP) and deep capillary plexuses (DCP) were analyzed. Results: 48 eyes of 24 patients (14 male 10 female) were evaluated. The mean age was 57,13 ± 10,98. The FAZ area in SCP was significantly higher and FD is significantly lower in the study eye than in the control eye (p<0.001 and p<0.001 respectively). But FAZ area in full retinal vasculature didn’t show statistically significance between eyes (p=0.564). Besides there were no statistically difference between eyes in terms of FAZ perimeter and AI of FAZ (p=0.389 and p=756 respectively). Vessel density in both SCP and DCP was lower in the study eye than in the control eye (p<0,05 for all). Conclusion: OCTA is a noninvasive imaging modality to assess the FAZ area and FAZ morphology quantitatively in patients with RVO. FAZ area should be evaluated with the FAZ assesment tool of OCTA in full retinal vasculature in these patients. Keywords: Foveal avascular zone, optical coherence tomography angiography, retinal venous occlusion.
