The use of "polypropylene graft" durıng hernıoplasty of prımary inguınal hernıas

ABSTRACT: In this prospective study, hernioplasty of primary inguinal hernias by polypropylene greft was performed in order to cause no tension at the operation site. 135 hernia operations in 116 adult patients were studied. Duration of postoperative pain, complications, and recurrence rates were investigated for an average 2-5 years follow up period. The operations were performed under local, general or spinal anesthesia. Polypropylene 5 by 10 cms. (Prolene0 mesh-ethicon) was sutured on fascia transversalis by 3/0 polypropylene suture material. Post-op complications, not due to the graft, were observed in 2 patients. There weren't any recurrences and no patient required analgesics after the second day. It was observed that this method of correcting the pathophysiology of hernia yields perfect early results.
